Established in 2021, The Gunnar J. Bigley Foundation is the embodiment of a remarkable young man's enduring legacy, conceived in loving memory by Gunnar's family. Amidst their profound grief, they recognized the tragedy of Gunnar's unfulfilled promise—a life of extraordinary potential curtailed at just 19. Embracing the conviction that Gunnar's narrative deserved continuation, his family embarked on a mission to perpetuate his impact on the world.
The Foundation's genesis was modest—a scholarship endowed in Gunnar's honor for a deserving high school student, reflecting his aspirations. This initial act of remembrance set a precedent, inspiring Gunnar's family as they witnessed the transformative power of their contributions. Bolstered by the community's generous support, the Foundation's vision expanded, evolving into a catalyst for lasting influence.
In alignment with Gunnar's childhood ambition to serve in law enforcement, the Foundation channels his passion by fostering opportunities for others to pursue their dreams in this noble field. "Say His Name" is not just our motto but a clarion call to remember and celebrate Gunnar—a name synonymous with coolness, a life defined by potential, and a spirit too vibrant to ever be forgotten.
To say there was no one as exceptional as Gunnar would be an understatement. If you were lucky enough to have met him, your life was blessed in ways you probably don’t know. To know Gunnar, was to love Gunnar. A man with a big heart, who wanted nothing more than to be friends with everyone. Gunnar Jeffrey Bigley was born on March 13, 2002. Our golden nugget, so worth the ten year wait for his arrival. Gunnar and his sister, Rachel, shared a bond that was indescribable. Gunnar completed our family. Gunnar was a typical child and teenager. He loved motorcycles, quads, playing air soft, being with his friends and most of all he loved his family.
Gunnar was an extremely kind and respectful young man. We continue to be amazed to hear stories from parents of his friends telling us how when he would enter their home he always took the time to stop and talk with them inquiring about their day. Gunnar was the type of man who, when he saw an elderly neighbor attempting to do something in their yard, would run over to assist them. Gunnar was a goof ball. He loved to be silly and make people laugh. Gunnar loved to do funny dances and make really weird noises. Gunnar fell in love and loved with his whole heart and soul. Gunnar had the best voice and laugh. Gunnar was a typical 19 year old and we are so grateful now knowing that he had so much fun in everything he did. He packed so much life into the short time he was here with us.
Like his grandfather, Gunnar dreamed of being a police officer. From a very young age, Gunnar loved to play airsoft and video games depicting himself as a police officer. He loved to serve people. Gunnar joined an EMS squad and his future was bright.
In the hopes of giving Gunnar a legacy, and to continue his dream of entering the law enforcement field, The Gunnar J. Bigley Foundation was formed. We are devastated by the loss of this wonderful young man, but supporting law enforcement and EMS units will continue to fulfill his dream. Please help us to continue Gunnar’s legacy by supporting our mission. We are sure Gunnar would have reached greatness if he had been given the chance, but since he is not here to do it himself, this Foundation will continue his dream of becoming active in the law enforcement field.
Gunnar's legacy continues as his family has adopted a portion of Route 206 under the Clean Communities Program offered by the state of New Jersey. Four times a year, his family cleans a one mile section of Route 206 beginning at the Andover Borough town line.
